Expressive Art Sessions for Kids & Teens

“What is Expressive Arts?”

The American Art Therapy Association beautifully states, “Through integrative methods, art therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are distinct from verbal articulation alone. Kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can circumvent the limitations of language. Visual and symbolic expression gives voice to experience and empowers individual, communal, and societal transformation.”

Art making taps into the unconscious mind and allows for free expression of worries, anxieties, fears, anger, etc. This allows the energy to shift, move, and be processed through the body. This process is often non-verbal allowing for the mind to stop blocking the healing process. As traumas and emotions can become trapped into the physical body, my approach allows for this energy to move through creating whole wellness.

Traditional Chinese Medicine talks about one pattern specifically that can create depressed feelings, we call this Stagnation of Qi (Liver Qi Stagnation) Qi is our lifeforce/energy in our bodies, often called prana in Ayurveda traditions. When these energies get stagnated it is like a traffic jam leaving feelings of frustration, annoyance, and a stuck and hopeless feeling in our bodies.

Instead of focusing on diagnosing my client with disorders, I look deeper at the whole person. I often see stagnation, negative cognitive beliefs, and other patterns of disharmony that can be moved and processed through art making, dance, body movements, nutritional changes, and plant/supplement support.

I educate kids, teens, and parents about self-care, emotions, emotional expression, healing foods, teas, natural healing modalities, spirituality (energetics), and plant medicines. My goal is to educate Holistic Healthy Healing and Expression.

During Expressive Art sessions all of my clients learn positive tools for healing and emotional expression they can utilize for the rest of their lives.
